Deck your DecksWinter 2016
Christmas in St. Katharine Docks is a magical time of year but 2016 promises to deliver an extra helping of floating festive cheer.
This year we’re asking boat owners to festoon their boats to help enhance the magical ambience that descends on London’s only private marina.
Marinas across the world have already shown how boats, barges, yachts and clippers can become part of the festive landscape, rivalling residential dwellings in terms of lanterns, lights and tinsel. Boat owners should look to the lavish Christmas boat parades in Singapore, Bermuda and California for inspiration, with floating festive offerings also in evidence closer to home, in the shape of decorated vessels moored at Ramsgate Harbour and Porthcawl Marina.
Why not wrap your masts in strings of fairy lights? There are some brilliant battery-operated and solar-powered options ideal for use on boats. Decks are also a great place to create a display. Real Christmas trees in pots and craftstyle reindeer made from willow would look amazing artfully arranged outside, especially when strung with lights. And don’t forget, every boat needs a wreath!
To encourage participation, the three best dressed Christmas boats will receive a great prize to redeem against a meal at CAU or Côte Brasserie or free coffee for two people for a week from Benugo. If you’re a berth holder here at the Docks and would like to take part, all you have to do is decorate your boat for Christmas.
The closing date for entries is Friday 11th December and winners will be announced the following week.
